About Hospitality
What is hospitality?
The hospitality industry includes restaurants, hotels, cafes, both front of house and back of housework, and pretty much all food services, tourism, and even community services. One of the best things about hospitality is that you can start getting work experience without having to complete traineeships or work placement. However, if you’re looking to have a lifelong career, then further study is a good idea.
Why should I study hospitality?
To get above a lower leadership position in the hospitality industry, studying one of many courses is a brilliant idea. Some of the experiences you can only get through a course include:
- Working in training restaurants
- Getting to explore other areas of experience than what you’re already experienced in
- Finding out about the operational differences between small business and large business
- How to start your own hospitality business.

Where and what can I study?
You can study anywhere in New Zealand, with most courses being recognised internationally. That includes Auckland or Christchurch. International students can also apply, although it’s always a good idea to check with CRICOS first.
